Another Triumph for Hillary Team

To top off an outstanding year, Thames High’s Hillary Challenge Team has won another award.

They have been named best team at the Hauraki/Thames/Coromandel district sports awards.

Here’s how their success was described at the awards: “After 14 consecutive years of making the Hillary Challenge Grand Final the Thames High School Hillary Challenge Team were finally crowned champions. The top 11 NZ teams and one Australian team competed in the final which consists of five days of intensive adventure racing requiring fitness, mental strength, navigational skills, problem solving, determination and team work. “

Team Coach Jenny Bloom was also nominated for Coach of the Year.  Judges said that Thames High School had won the Hillary Challenge “…. due to the belief of head coach Jenny Bloom that this little school has what it takes to be champions. Jenny gives up hours of her own time to train and take students to events, preparing them mentally and physically for the week long adventure racing challenge.

It’s the icing on the cake for Jenny and the victorious team – congratulations!
