Concerns and complaints

We understand that there may be instances where students, parents, or staff members have concerns. We take concerns and complaints seriously and we aim to resolve issues at the earliest opportunity and at the lowest possible level. We encourage communication about issues, so we can ensure understanding, make corrections or improvements.

Unless there are exemptional circumstances a complaint will not be considered unless the correct process has been followed. You may be directed back to the staff member or principal to follow the process.

Use the links below to learn more about our concerns and complaints process. We will respond as guided by the process below, to address your concerns promptly.

We follow the guidelines for public sector agencies.

You may wish to refer to the guidelines for making a complaint to the Ministry of Education

The guidelines require that concerns and complaints are raised with the school first (principal and then school board), and if are not happy with the response from the school, contact the Ministry of Education local office for support.

If you are still not satisfied that the concern or complaint has been properly addressed, following the correct processes, then you can contact the Office of the Ombudsman.

Again, the Office of the Ombudsman, has advice about how to make a complaint, and includes the advice, “Before coming to the Ombudsman you should try to resolve the issue with the public sector agency itself.” and “The Ombudsman may decide not to investigate unless you’ve tried to do this first.”
