Accommodation

International Students must live in a home-stay which has been vetted and approved by the International Education Department. This will cost them $255 per week in 2018.

This cost includes three meals a day, seven days a week, a room of your own, and full use of the facilities of the house. The only extra costs are for your phone calls to other towns and countries (local calls are free) and your internet use.

Most New Zealand families live in detached houses on a plot of land, with lawn and gardens.  Your family might have other children, but not always. Homestays can be chosen from town, outlying areas, beach or farm locations. Most home-stay are located in the township of Thames, so school and amenities are within easy walking distance. If placed outside of Thames students will take a free bus each day to and from school.

If you enrol we will help you settle into your home-stay. Our Homestay Manager, Mrs Pauline Carter, or another Thames High School International Department staff member, will meet you at the airport and take you to your new home. If you have any problems in your homestay, Pauline is available to help you. If you are really not happy in your homestay, she will find you another home to live in. Contact Pauline by email internationalsupport@thameshigh.school.nz.
