From Thames to Great Barrier Island: Year 10 Camps Emphasise Hands-On Learning

Nearly every Year 10 student participated in a camp this year, with options ranging from a local camp with art or multisport day trips to adventures across the North Island. Many of these camps build on the school’s strong tradition of learning through outdoor pursuits.

Camps options included a week at the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Tongariro, an experience paddling the Whanganui River and a camp on Great Barrier Island. Closer to home, students gave rave reviews to a camp known as “the beast”—the Best Adventures South of Thames—which features day trips of white water rafting, kayaking, rock climbing and hiking.

With something for everyone, camps give Year 10 students a unique small-group learning experience and a chance to experience our beautiful region up close.
