Thames Students Represent New Zealand on the Football Field

Thames High School students Isaac Fisher and Luis John recently represented New Zealand as part of the NZ CrossWhites under-18 soccer team at the Melbourne Friendship Cup in Dandenong.

The experience gives young players “some sense of professionalism,” said Luis. “You feel like a big team — you have a team physio, you have your name on your back, people in the airport come up and take photos.”

Isaac said the experience of representing your country “is pretty special — it’s not something everybody gets a chance to do.”

The CrossWhites earned second place in the tournament, losing only to the world-renowned Brazil team by one point in the final match.

Congratulations to John and Luis for making New Zealand proud on the international football field!
