National Library Changes

The National Library in Wellington is reviewing how it works together with schools and Thames High’s opinion is being heard.

THS is one of only five secondary schools across New Zealand selected to trial the National Library’s new approach to supporting schools and learning.

School Librarian Ruth Howes says there are three focus areas: supporting student research and inquiry, improving reading engagement and literacy, and skills to find and use on-line information.

She says Vicki Stephens from the National Library will be visiting Thames High throughout the year, and will help accelerate and enhance the school library’s development.

Mrs Howes, along with Principal David Sim and teacher Jennifer Glenn, visited the National Library last year as part of the project.
