It’s just a bare patch of land now, but soon it’ll be home to the new Indoor Sports Facility in Thames.
Based at the school, the facility will be open to the whole community.
It will be up to tournament standard for most indoor sports and activities.
The $4.5 million facility is being delivered for the community by the Thames-Coromandel District Council with support from the community, Thames High School, and the Ministry of Education.
The project is part of the Active Thames 2018 plan; a collaboration between Thames-Coromandel District Council, Thames Community Board, Thames High School, community and private sponsors.
The plan includes a new skate and scooter park at Porritt Park, an indoor gymnasium at Thames High School and a multi-sport clubroom and spectator pavilion at Rhodes Park.
